At Plural Supply, we believe in addressing sustainability and environmental concerns from all parts of our product’s life cycle.

We’re constantly learning and working towards new ways of integrating sustainability into our processes, but we’re confident that our products are environmentally friendly choices — from how our ingredients are grown, to how our products biodegrade.

Organic, biodegradable ingredients

It may not be visible to us, but all parts of every product have to return to the earth.

Dissolved soap returns to our waters and soils, and fumes from burnt candle wax return to the atmosphere. For the parts of our products like these, we take care to minimise their negative impact on the earth after each use.

Coconut Wax
We only use pure coconut wax for our candles. No wax produces a completely soot-free burn, but coconut wax is among one of the cleanest burning options.

Coconuts are a high-yield and renewable crop, which doesn’t require any pesticide or fertiliser to grow. The process of extracting coconut wax from coconuts also doesn’t use synthetic or petroleum-based chemicals.

Organic essential & absolute oils
To scent our products, we use only organic essential oils, absolute oils and natural additives.

Unlike synthetic fragrances, these organically derived materials can break down when they return to the ground. It’s kinder to our homes and health, and kinder to our planet too.

Sourcing ingredients with care

Knowing the origin of our ingredients assures us of our growers’ care and consideration for the land, and helps us put our products in perspective as being part of a larger system. We take pride in using unique ingredients and scents, but we avoid using any endangered plants or their oils, or any ingredients whose production, harvesting or use comes at a cost to the environment.

Where we can, we source ingredients directly from organic producers or co-operatives — like our black castor oil from a women’s co-operative in Haiti, or our citronella and hinoki cypress essential oils from a producer in Taiwan.

Our founder J tries to visit each farm, speak with the producers, and hear the stories behind their work and products. Although we’ve had to put farm visits on hold since the pandemic, we’re hoping to share more stories behind our ingredients in the near future. Find out more about our ingredients and sourcing here.

Reducing production waste

We have also rescued many ingredients from disposal. For example, we’ve saved botanicals, oils and food items from local gardeners or members of our community with surplus products. We can get creative and develop new products from these rescued ingredients by staying curious and having a nimble process.

Closing the packaging loop

We keep branded packaging to a minimum, and use what we have on hand for much of our packaging and shipping materials.

To wrap and ship your orders, we reuse mailers and other packaging that we collect from the community. We also offer standard and reduced packaging on all orders.

We seek to keep our packaging in circulation as much as possible. We encourage you to carry on using our materials, be it reusing shipping materials after your order has reached you safely, or repurposing our candle jars after you finish enjoying our candles.

See below on how you can also return your packaging and empty candle jars to us.
